A75 MOTORWAY EASY ACCESS TO THE LANGUEDOC NAMED 'LE MERIDIAN'

A75 MOTORWAY 'FLYING A CAR' GIVES QUICK LINK TO THE LANGUEDOC - OPENS COMPLETELY END 2010-EARLY 2011

The opening of the new A75 toll bridge at Millau, means that the Languedoc is easier than ever as well as cheaper to access. The autoroute which currently arrives at Pezenas, and by the end of 2010 early 2011 is planned to provide a complete autoroute journey from Paris to the Mediterranean without passing the Lyon Rhone valley access. The link with the A9 at Beziers opened on the 23rd June, 2010. The work on the final section of motorway linking Pezenas with Beziers with the final 3.5 kilometers section due to open at the end of the year outside Pezenas near Servian.

Now the new toll or peage in Beziers is open in June 2010, with a section of approx 6.5 kilometers towards Servian. The final section of 3.5 kilometers will open now in the winter of 2010/11. Engineering difficulties have been evidently encountered in this section due to the nature of the soil as well as having to heighten the level of the road to cope with the 1 in a 100 years floods that can effect the land it passes through, as well as the 11 streams and tributaries in this section or roadway.

The new motorway name has now been revealed too - 'Le Meridian' not that the Meridian line passes through the Herault evidently, simply this is the effect the new motorway is seen to be conveying!

The road provides one of the most spectacular routes in France particularly the latter hour as the autoroute descends from the High Causse of the Central Massif into the Mediterranean basin. An arrival in to a different climate and a different culture, although still very much France.

With new airline routes opening to the region, serving the 4 international airports in the Languedoc with direct UK flights, the next few years look exciting. The links with the UK and the rest of Europe are developing fast. The French Governments investment are implementing plans to improve the TGV train journey times (currently 4.5 hours from Paris from Beziers) the Languedoc's popularity with the French and other nationals is also set to grow, and will eventually link the region closer still to Barcelona, in Spain. The TGV line upgrade is due in 2015 and will link Beziers with Barcelona, Paris, London, Brussels and of course Madrid and Malaga going forward.
